Kazakhstan’s entry into the Bologna process dictates the need to bring education, professional standards, qualifications and job positions in line with European directives, including in nursing.

The implementation of the project for the introduction of an applied bachelor’s degree in the specialty «Nursing» was launched by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2014 in an experimental mode on the basis of 6 state medical colleges.

Since 2018, the college has introduced an educational program of applied bachelor’s degree in the specialty «Nursing» for the preparation of highly professional clinically oriented medical specialists, developed jointly with experts from the University of Applied Sciences of Finland. Continuous improvement of nursing practice and improving the quality of medical care require a corresponding increase in the quality and adequacy of education those who want to acquire the profession of a nurse, as well as continuous improvement of the qualifications of already working nurses.

In August 2018, the selection and admission of applicants for training in the accelerated educational program of applied bachelor’s degree in the specialty «Nursing» for practicing nurses was carried out. 25 nurses with at least three years of work experience were admitted. This program is developed in accordance with European directives and students spend about 50% of the time in a clinical setting. Upon completion, the qualification is awarded – Bachelor of Applied Sciences in the specialty «Nursing».

The main goal of this training is to train practice-oriented nursing specialists of a new formation, who are able to actively and effectively use the knowledge gained during the training period and in practice, who are able to think critically and analytically, effectively manage resources and work in accordance with the principles of patient safety.

The material and technical base of the college meets modern innovative educational standards, provided with modern equipment. In order to improve the system of training medical personnel, including nursing specialists on the basis of international standards, improve the quality of medical care, nursing care for chronic non-communicable diseases, planning the nursing process, and developing home patronage, graduates annually defend their thesis on topical issues of nursing … At the same time, the number of «academic bachelors of nursing» and master-teachers in the college is growing from year to year.

From the 2019-2020 academic year, on the basis of general secondary education with a training period of 3.6 years, 10 students were admitted according to the republican budget, and 77 students were admitted under the accelerated educational program of studies 1.6.

During the implementation of the applied bachelor’s program in the experimental mode in February 2020, she defended her theses in topical areas of nursing in accordance with the criteria developed jointly with Finnish colleagues. In March 2020, the college hosted the first graduation in the educational program of the applied bachelor’s degree (post-secondary education) in the amount of 24 students with the assignment of the qualification «Applied Bachelor of Nursing» and the issuance of diplomas of the established sample. Graduates of the applied bachelor’s degree pass the state exam through the National Center for Independent Examination and have shown 100% quality of knowledge, 8 graduates received a state diploma with honors, all our graduates are 100% employed.
